Why Jeans are Usually Blue in Color

Jeans are made of denim, a hard fabric of cotton. he denim name comes from that name’s serge de Nîmes, from the French town. Serge is a twill form, a name for clothes produced in the weft and warp (vertical and horizontal axes) with distinct threads. In denim, this distinction is one colored and one undyed thread, making a cheaper cloth-you need only half the dye. It almost seems redundant to call your trousers “blue jeans” because almost all denim is blue. While jeans are likely your wardrobe’s most versatile plants, blue is not a particularly neutral color. Ever wonder why the go-to hue is this?

We have to go back to when the first jeans were made to answer that question. Levi Strauss may be known for “inventing” jeans, just patenting the style with rivets to make them more sturdy — he wasn’t the first to make the fabric, Levi Strauss & Co said. Denim was already a traditional worker fabric, so he just added a fresh twist to the day’s trend. In reality, for brown cotton pants, he used the same design called “duck” pants, which ultimately fell out of fashion and made way for jeans. However, these small Jean front pockets are still on contemporary models today — and that’s why they exist.

Due to the chemical properties of blue dye, blue was the color selected for denim. Most colors in hot temperatures will permeate the fabric, making the color stick. On the other hand, according to Slate, the natural indigo dye used in the first jeans would only stick to the outside of the threads. When the indigo-tinted denim is washed away, tiny amounts of that dye get washed away, and the thread comes along. The more denim was washed, the softer it would get, and eventually, the worn-in, made-for-me feeling you’re likely to get with your favorite jeans is achieved. And when it’s finally time to part with your overused couple, together with other products, you can recycle or upgrade them.

That softness made the worker’s pants the pants of choice. Blue jeans took over and locked their place in history as the classic American fashion as demand for jeans went up and duck pants went down. Jeans has turned itself in the fashion icon and can give you the Standout in the crowd.
